Kate Waller Barrett Chapter is a dynamic chapter that promotes the ideals of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) by serving the Alexandria, VA, community.  Volunteer services include reading programs at Washington Mill Elementary School, ceremonial services at the tomb of George Washington on Veteran's Day, presentation of American flags at Naturalization Court to new citizens, marking historic sites, working on genealogical records, and the ongoing historic preservation of Gadsby's Tavern.  Members contribute to the national organization by serving as docents at the DAR Museum, serving as chairmen of national committees, and contributing time and money to the preservation of genealogical records.

The chapter won the national award for the "Most Chapter Literacy Volunteers and Volunteer Hours." The award demonstrates the commitment of members to the next generation by promoting literacy and love of learning through volunteer reading programs for several local elementary schools.

Members work diligently to promote the ideals of our Society and therein are making our nation, state, and community a better place to live.
